Had a wonderful time with Eric Rhoads on this weeks PleinAir Podcast! Thank you Eric and Streamline Publishing for a great time and some lively conversation about ‘No Fear Oil Painting™”. Along with reminiscing about some great times painting in Cuba and the Annual Plein Air Conventions we wander through some thoughts on using music as a tool in your painting practice, choosing what to paint, taking the time to tune our senses and approaching our canvas without fear.
With workshops having to be cancelled and rescheduled it was a wonderful time for my demo lesson ‘Painting Buildings in the Landscape’ to come out in Plein Air Magazine. Until we can meet again in person please enjoy and hope you can glean a new idea or two from the article. I’ll be in Santa Fe on faculty at PACE20 and look forward to see some of you there.

Those of you who have mentioned wanting to see ‘Last One Up’ in person come on up to the OPA National Exhibition in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado June 1st through September 3rd!

Thank you Richard Galusha of the Wildhorse Gallery for the Plein Air Division Award of Merit for ‘Young Win’ in the Wet Paint Sale event!
A little more history on ‘Last One Up’ – I ran, literally, up and down the South Kaibab Trail at the Grand Canyon – sticking to the canyon wall when necessary and crouching under rock ledges…waiting…for this painting that was already in my minds eye. The loyal, sturdy mules who are born into a life of doing endless trips packing gear and people – from top of the canyon to bottom and back again – day after day – amaze me.
